Abstract
734,376. Glazing bars and capping. GOFFAUX, J. March 12, 1953 [May 6, 1952; Jan. 15, 1953], No. 6852/53. Class 20 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A glazing bar 1 (Fig. 1) of T-section and formed of aluminium or other light metal or alloy has at least one longitudinally extending reinforcement 2 of stronger metal, preferably steel, disposed in or secured to the glazing bar where the stress in the bar, when load bearing, is greatest. The reinforcement may be of square section or a thin strip of rectangular section or a wire or cable anchored under tension to the bar. The flanges 3 of the glazing bar have upwardly extending projections 3<SP>1</SP> which support the panes of glass and which may as shown in Fig. 3 also have reinforcing strips 2. The reinforcements may be located in grooves, cavities or in any suitable recess in the bar and fixed in position, for example, by deforming one part of the bar. Thus the head of the web of the glazing bar may have downwardly-extending splayed side flanges and reinforcements of rectangular cross-section are placed between the web and the splayed flanges, pressure being applied to the splayed flanges, for example by hammering or by rollers, to seal the reinforcements in position. As shown in Fig. 9, the glazing bar 10 has a tubular head split along its length and which initially has one side 12 bent back to allow the introduction of a reinforcing rod into the head. The glass panes are secured on the projections of the flanges 3 by a cover strip having two elastic lateral extensions 20 and 21 and secured to the glazing bar by stirrups 22 and bolts 23.
