734,321. Batteries. YARDNEY INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. May 4, 1953 [May 2, 1952], No. 12314/53. Class 53. The projecting margins 11 of a separator 10 made of a semi-permeable material such as regenerated cellulose are provided with a protective coating which may be applied by printing and may consist of a synthetic resin. The separator may be folded round the electrode to enclose it completely in which case the protective coating strips are applied along the lines about which the separator sheet is folded as shown in Fig. 1. The positive electrode may consist of sintered silver and may be wrapped in a fabric of woven artificial fibres before being folded in the separator sheet 10. The negative electrode may consist of a magnesium frame or grid carrying active material. Raised parts of the frame may be protected by an insulating coating and parts in contact with the active material may be made more conductive by a zinc and copper plating. Two separate electrode plates may be folded in the sheet shown in Fig. 1 which may then be folded into U-shape.
