Abstract

733,961. Driving-chains. PERRY CHAIN CO., Ltd. April 9, 1954 [June 25, 1953]. No. 17595/53. Class 24. [Also in Group XXII] The inner links of a rollertype drive chain comprise side plates 1 connected at each end by a rollersupporting bush 2 provided with shoulders 6 and receiving the pin or rivet 3 which connects the side plates 4 of the outer links. The bush 2 may be a split bush formed from a sheet-metal blank having the ends brought together at 5, or may be a jointless bush. In assembling the chain the end of the bush 2 is tightly fitted into the hole in the side plate 1 up to the shoulder 6'so that the extremity of the bush projects from the outer face of the plate. This projecting extremity is then subjected to a pressing operation (see Group XXII) whereby the open-end of the bush is expanded or flared outwardly to interlock with the rough conical surface formed by the break-away of metal when punching the hole in the side plate 1. The slightly projecting peened end of the bush is then subjected to a rolling or turning-over operation (see Group XXII) whereby it is spread radially and pressed firmly over on to the outside face of the plate 1 and is shaped to form a continuous smooth convex beading 12 which provides a line contact with the outer plate 4 and is readily accessible to a lubricant.
