Abstract

An aluminium - base alloy, having high strength and resistance to creep at elevated temperatures, consists of: Cu 5-13 per cent; Mn 0.15-1.7 per cent; V 0.05-0.2 per cent; Zr 0.05-0.3 per cent; Fe up to 0.75 per cent; Si up to 0.4 per cent; Mg up to 0.02 per cent; Al the remainder; the Mn content being between 3 and 13 per cent of the copper content. The alloy may also include 0.01-0.25 per cent in total of one or more of: Co, Ni, Mo, W, Cr, Ti, B, Ta, Nb. The alloy is solution heat-treated at 960-1000 DEG F. for 2-24 hours, quenched (preferably in water at 70-160 DEG F.) and precipitation hardened at 350-450 DEG F. for 1-50 hours.
