Abstract
733,529. Gas turbine plant. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 3, 1953 [July 24, 1952], No. 18438/53. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] The interengaging surfaces of a pair of relatively movable members of a fluid flow control device in a gas turbine fuel system are kept free of particulate material by maintaining a now of finely filtered fluid over them. A pump 10 supplies fuel via a pipe 24 and coarse filter 22 through a rotary-plug cut-off valve 20, a metering piston valve 16 in which the piston 52 is adjusted at 62 manually and in accord with temperature, pressure or speed changes in the gas turbine, and through a spring-loaded plunger valve 106 exposed to inlet and outlet pressures at its respective ends, to the burner nozzles 90, the pump having a by-pass plunger valve 18 maintaining a constant pressure drop across the metering 'valve, the pressure drop being applied across the ends of the -plunger. Fuel taken from the pump outlet at 36 is passed through a fine filter 34 and washes the surface of the plug 30 as it flows from a chamber 40 round the plug into the main stream 44. In the metering valve fuel flows via passage 58, filter 56, passages 50 and over the housing and piston valve surfaces back into the main stream 46. The surface of the actuating piston 72 of the by-pass valve is similarly washed by fuel passing filter 84 and passage 82. In the nozzle valve 106, the filter 100 is carried in the valve member and washes its actuating plunger 96 via passages 102.
