Abstract

733,281. Electromechanical filters. COLLINS RADIO CO. July 21, 1953 [Aug. 14, 1952], No. 20251/53. Class 40 (8). An electromechanical filter comprises a number of discs 24 joined by peripheral coupling rods 26, the end discs being connected to supporting-rods 22, 23 which extend between upright members 18, 19, 20, 21. The discs and coupling wires are made of nickel or other material having a high mechanical Q. The end discs are coupled by magnetostrictive coupling wires 29, 30, attached to their peripheries, to input and output coils arranged within cylinders 13, 14. The cylinders 13, 14 are supported by clamps 11, 12 which also serve to support polarizing magnets 16, 17. The filter operates in manner similar to that described in Specification 722,664.
