732,750. Injecting fertilizers into soil. LEUENBERGER, C. July 24, 1953 [July 30, 1952], No. 20609/53. Class 6 (1). A machine for injecting fertilizers and insecticides into the ground comprises a wheeled frame 1 carrying a tank 2, feeding, through a pump 3, to hollow injecting-tines 8 which are resiliently and pivotally supported from cranks 30 driven by the land-wheels 7 so that the tines are vertically reciprocated at a rate proportional to the speed of the wheels, the tines being slidable in sleeves 28 pivoted on the cranks 30 and being pressed downwardly by springs 29, so that the cranks are permitted to continue movement in the event of the tines being arrested by an obstacle. The cranks are driven in out-of-phase pairs from the respective land-wheels 7 through a chain drive to a crankshaft 31 above each wheel. The dosage of liquid supplied to the tines is controllable in quantity and timing by a valve 13 actuated by an adjustable cam on each crank-shaft. Clutches are provided on the crank-shafts for disabling either or both drives, e.g. for transport. Discs 32 on the tines limit their penetration and counterweights 20 return them to their normal position after withdrawal.
