Abstract

A clear injectible liquid comprises a solution of a physiologically active substance in a mixture of water with at least one of the substances (a) polyoxyethylene glycol, (b) a polyoxyethylene glycol derivative of a partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol with a long chain fatty acid, (c) propylene glycol, the proportions of the ingredients in said solvent being such that the solution is stable, but precipitates the active substances on injection. Glycerol may be used in conjunction with propylene glycol. The active substances may be hormones, p anesthetics, antibiotics and histamin-antagonizing agents, many examples of all of which are given. Polyoxyethylene glycols of mol. weight of from 200-4000 may be employed. Polyoxyethylene glycol derivatives of the following esters are mentioned: sorbitan monolaurate, monopalmitate, monostearate, monooleate, trioleate, sorbitol hexastearate and the corresponding mannitan derivatives. Specifications 667,010 and 674,784 are referred to.
