Abstract
<PICT:0731608/III/1> <PICT:0731608/III/2> Molecular distillation apparatus comprises a static condenser located within a bowl-shaped evaporator, the apparatus being arranged for delivering distillate above the level of the floor of the evaporator under the action of centrifugal force. The distilland is fed by a pipe 26 (Fig. 1) into a heated rotating bowl-shaped evaporator 10. Vapours are condensed on a stationary condenser 11 and the condensate falls into an annular gutter 15 attached to the evaporator 10 and is impelled by centrifugal force outwardly and upwardly along pipes 17 into an annular gutter 20. Distillate residues are delivered by centrifugal force over the upper edge of the evaporator 10 into an annular gutter 21. The condenser 11 may comprise a frusto-conical annular wall 27 (Fig. 3), having a cooled condenser coil 28 attached to its inside and beneath it an annular gutter 31 for collecting distillate which feeds the rotating gutter 15. As an alternative to the gutter 31, the lower edge of the condenser wall 27 may be rolled and may be terminated in an inclined plane which has a side take-off at its lower point feeding the annular gutter 15. Two or more stills may be connected in series, the distillate from one still being fed to the next by gravity. A plurality of annular concentric gutters may be located on the floor of the evaporator to collect separate fractions from different zones of the condenser.
