Abstract
731,590. Control of A.C. motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 28, 1953 [May 7, 1952], No. 36797/54. Divided out of 731,570. Class 38 (3). Relates to the control of a single-phase motor having running winding 2, starting winding 3, and phase-splitting capacitor 5. When a reversing switch 22 engages contact 13, a circuit is completed through the coil of relay 9, speedresponsive switch 17, and the running winding. Relay 9 then closes to energize the starting winding so that the motor starts and accelerates. Opening of the switch 17 disconnects the starting winding, but the winding 2 remains energized since a circuit is maintained through coil 11 and contacts 83, 84. To reverse the motor, the switch 22 is engaged with contact 14 whereby the relay 9 is de-energized, and the starting winding is short-circuited through the capacitor 5 for braking. When the motor slows down to the cut-in speed of the switch 17, a circuit is established to the running winding 2 and the coil 12. The relay 10 then picks up to energize the starting winding in the reverse direction. Specification 697,597 is referred to.
