In a lock of the kind in which a dead-bolt 10 is actuated by a key-operated rack lever or fly talon 12 which is pivoted on the lock case 14 and controlled by key-operated levers or tumblers 19 which require to be operated by the key to bring their gatings 17 into register, before the key can operate the rack lever or talon to actuate the bolt, spring-loaded means are provided which automatically come into action to complete the boltthrowing action of the rack lever or talon in the event of the key failing to do so. As shown, the spring-loaded means consists of an auxiliary lever 21 pivotally mounted on the same pivot 13 as that for the talon 12 and making face-to-face contact therewith. The lever 21 is provided with abutments 22 and 23 permitting small relative movement between the lever and the talon. In the position shown a spring-loaded horn 24 on the lever 21 biases the talon and bolt to the unlocked position, while movement, of the key to the locking position pivots the talon and the lever 21, which latter biases the talon to the locking position and completes the shooting of the bolt 10 if the key is unable to do so. The lever is provided with a horn 29 which in the shut position of the bolt lies between the levers 19 and the key hole 15 to prevent picking.
