A collapsible box has two opposed sides rotatably mounted on two shafts secured in an upper rigid frame so that these sides may be swung to a position above the top edges of the other two opposed sides which are pivotally connected at their upper edges to the upper rigid frame and at their lower edges to a rigid bottom frame. As shown, an angle-section bottom frame 1, which holds the box bottom 2, is joined to an upper angle-section frame 5, 6, 7, 8 by strips 9 whose ends engage through slots 10 in both frames, Fig. 2, and are bent over forming hinges. Two sides 3, 4 of the box are secured to the strips 9 by rivets 12. The upper frame angle section parts 5, 6 have their flanges facing outwardly and filled with strips 17 and parts 7, 8 have their flanges facing inwardly. Shafts 13 extend between parts 5 and 6 within angle sections 7, 8, Fig. 2, and sides 14, 15 have members 16 of sheet metal or the like which engage over shafts 13 so that the sides may be folded flat with frame 5, 6, 7, 8. A lid may be provided having a frame 20 containing a panel and having hooks which engage recesses 22 in filler 17. An aperture in frame 20 may coincide with one in part 6 so that the lid may be secured. If the combined vertical dimensions of the box sides 14, 15 exceed the horizontal dimension of the box sides 3, 4 one of the rods 13 may be offset downwardly and the top of the side, e.g. 14, may nearer the top of member 16.
