Abstract

731,305. Finishing fabrics. DECLOUX, M. Jan. 9, 1953 [Jan. 15, 1952; Feb. 23, 1952], No. 752/53. Class 42 (1). Relief effects on cloth are obtained by subjecting the nap to the action of scraping blades which penetrate the thickness of the nap down to the base thereof and gather together the nap from the bottom a thereof into crests b, thus forming undulations in accordance with the direction in which the .blade edges lie. Straight-edged blades mounted helically on a rotary cylinder may be used on continuously-moving cloth to produce a pattern as in Fig. 1; the cylinder may be movable normally to the cloth surface or transversely relative to the direction of movement of the cloth. Alternatively blades may be arranged on the cylinder in chevron formation to produce a pattern as in Fig. 2; the cylinder may be given an alternating transverse motion in addition to its rotary motion. Pattern effects on selected areas only of the cloth are obtained by the use of an apertured template, e.g. of thin flexible metal, which may be progressed in belt fashion so as to lie over the cloth at the working point.
