A swivel damper comprises an open frame member for installation in a flue and a damper member for co-operating with the frame member to close the passage therethrough except for a narrow space all round which is closed by strips of heat-resisting flexible sealing material formed at least in part of resilient material and each secured at one edge along an edge of one or other of said members so that the flat face of the strip on one side co-operates with the other member to form a gastight seal by virtue of the spring pressure of the resilient part when flexed. As shown, Fig. 1, a flue damper comprises blade 1, spring sealing elements 3, 4, and element abutments 5, 6. In a modification of this arrangement additional spring sealing elements are used instead of abutments 5, 6. In a gate type damper-plan views in Fig. 7-sealing strips 12 are secured to framework 11 whilst in a swivel balanced type the damper blade 1b has flexible elements 12 secured to it along all relevant sides in the Fig. 10 arrangement, but only to its upstream part in the Fig. 11 arrangement the other elements in this arrangement being secured to the frame 11b. The heat-resisting flexible and resilient sealing material may be used in the form of an elongated strip around the edge of the frame or damper or a plurality of strips placed in overlapping relationship may be employed. The resilient material may be in the form of strips secured in position in adjacent, spaced apart or overlapping relationship on one side or within a textile heat-resisting flexible material or on one side or within one or several layers of heat-resisting wire gauze. The woven sealing material shown in Fig. 18 comprises threads 26 of mineral fabric and wires 27 of heat-resisting resilient material. Specifications 565,714, 589,206 and 601,726 are referred to.
