Abstract

Diamond-bearing material is milled to slime-off the soft gangue, the residue is then washed and the contained ferrous bodies are converted to magnetite and separated magnetically, after which the residue is treated by a sink-and-float process to recover the diamonds. The ferrous bodies may be removed by drying the material containing them, mixing with carbon, and then heating to 600 DEG C. By suitably adjusting the working conditions of the mill, the slime formed in it may be used to float-off quartz, shells and similar material.
