Abstract

A material for use in polishing articles in a barrel polisher comprises chips obtained by crushing a slag, substantially free from glaze, the slag being that produced by the aluminothermic or like exothermic process for the reduction of chrome ore. The material preferably has a chromium oxide content of at least 2%, e.g. 2-7%, and a silica content below 50%.
