A sealing-material for use between an ingotmould and a hot-top, is a mixture of oil or grease and at least one of a fire-proof finely divided material such as clay or grinding swarf, e.g., a mixture of iron and carborundum, and a finely divided material which expands when heated, such as powdered slate.
