Abstract

Stainless steel practically free of sulphur contamination is recovered from shavings or particles secured during cutting or grinding by grinding the contaminated shavings or particles in such a manner that the sulphidic material (originating mainly from the cutting or grinding tools) is separated from pure stainless steel; and dividing the resulting powder of flotation and washing into a sulphidic fraction and a stainless steel fraction. The stainless steel powder is dired and then pref. briquetted to avoid loss of fines during the remelting.
