Abstract

730,918. Fluid-actuated valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. March 23, 1953 [May 28, 1952], No. 7951/53. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXIV] A residual pressure check valve, particularly for fluid pressure braking systems, comprises a casing 36 containing a resilient sealing member 50 controlling fluid flow in one direction through a casing opening 38, and a reaction member 44, supported by casing ledges or the like 48, acting as abutment for a spring 54 loading the sealing member, the casing acting as a valve seating 60 on a yielding ring to control fluid flow in the reverse direction. The device is shown incorporated in the line between a master cylinder and wheel cylinders of a vehicle fluid-pressure braking system, the spring 62 bearing on the master piston and the casing moving in the master cylinder 12, for the purpose of creating a residual pressure in the wheel cylinders. The semi-elliptical valve and domed casing respectively may be replaced by a similar valve flattened at its seating end or a flat valve backed by a metal plate co-operating with the flat end of a frusto-conical casing.
