Abstract
730,742. Ventilating vehicles. HUGHES, J. F. April 12, 1954 [April 7, 1953], No. 9308/53. Classes 20 (3) and 137. A transparent hood, or cowl, 9 closed at the sides and front and open at the back is mounted on the roof 6 of a vehicle to enclose from the front the whole, or part of, an opening 8 in a sunshine roof closable by a sliding member 7, the hood 9 being mounted at the sides in the outside grooves 10 of H-section ribs 11 the inside grooves of which receive the side edges of the sliding member 7. The hood 9 deflects the air upward when the vehicle is travelling in the direction of the arrow and prevents the air from blowing under the front edge of the sliding member when pushed back. In a modification, the cowl is provided with side louvres, and transverse ribs are secured to the fixed part of the roof to prevent water on the roof from running down into the opening 8 when the vehicle is going down hill, the water being trapped in the. grooves between the transverse ribs and running off the sides of the vehicle.
