Abstract

730,666. Stop . motion. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1953 [Oct. 22, 1952 ; Dec. 11, 1952], Nos. 26488/52 and 31364/52. Class 120(2). A stop motion for textile spinning, &c., machines, in which a detector element rests by virtue of its own weight against a yarn or thread is arranged so that movement of the detector upon thread breakage allows an eccentrically pivoted element to come into contact with and be driven by a rotating part of the machine such rotation causingmovement of a link resulting in predetermined stopping actions on the machine. In the embodiment shown a detector lever 63 is pivoted at 55. Also mounted on the pivot 55 is a link 47 to the other end of which, at pivot 49, is connected a rod or lever 43 which is acted upon, through a three armed lever 1, by a weight 3. An eccentric disc 51 is also mounted on the pivot 49. For normal operation the mechanism is in the position shown in Fig. 2 the eccentric being held up by a peg 53 engaging an extension 65 of the detector lever 63 and the weight acting through the rod 43 to hold the toggle mechanism as shown. On breakage of the thread 61 the detector 63 swings downwards, thus releasing the peg 53 from the extension 65 and permitting the eccentric disc to drop and contact the lower drawing roller 39 and be driven thereby. By this engagement the eccentric is moved in an upward direction causing the lever 43 to be similarly moved so that pivot 49 is moved through its dead centre position whereupon the lever 43 under the influence of weight 3 on the three armed lever 1 allows the latter to move. This causes the gripper rod 7 to be moved and the consequential gripping of the material passing through the conductor 75 by the gripper 9. At the same time, a stud 67 on the third arm of lever 1 engages the pressure lever 69 and relieves the pressure on the lower feeding roller, and, the support 31 for the rollers around which the apron 35 passes is moved about its pivot point to cause the apron to move away from its control roller 37.
