Abstract

730,419. Slicing potato crisps &c. GAUDION. W. R., and HEATON, M. May 19, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953], No. 4755/53.. Class 5 (1). A potato is sliced with corrugations on each side of the slice at an angle to one another whereby the heights of the corrugations intersect to leave a network of holes by a pair of diametrical, cutters 15 in a rotated disc 11 also rotated planet-wise around another superposed rotated disc 4 through a central funnel 16 of which is fed a potato to the cutters. The planetwise motion is arranged to cut corrugations at right angles to the previous cut. A motor pulley (2 Fig. 1 not shown) drives a belt to rotate the upper disc 4 on the axis of which a sprocket 6 and endless chain 10 rotates a sprocket 9 on the cutter disc 11 which is thereby rotated on its own axis and also planetwise. Each potato is inserted through a hole 18 in tube 16 after the spring pressed feed plunger 17 has been retracted by hand. The cutters 15 adjustably protrude upwards in slots in the disc 11, the slices passing down through the slots 15. The disc 4 is provided with a counterweight the momentum which balances the cutting action.
