Abstract

Synthetic resins obtained by the polymerization of one or more monomers containing a CH2=C< group in the molecule, are plasticized with one or more N,N-di-substituted amides of an unsaturated fatty acid having at least 12 carbon atoms per molecule and if desired another known plasticizer, e.g. diethylene glycol-dicaprylate. Monomers mentioned are vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloracetate, vinyl alkyl ether, vinyl alkyl thioether, vinyl amine, vinyl acetylene, divinyl acetylene, vinyl alkyl ketone, acrylic acid, acrylic and methacrylic acid esters, vinyl acetic acid, styrene, butadiene, isoprene and isobutylene. Resins exemplified are polyvinyl chloride, and a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. Specified amides are oleic acid diethylamide, oleic acid piperidide, oleic acid morpholide, sperm oil fatty acid N,N-diethylamide and oleic acid-N-ethyl-N-cyclohexilamide. The plasticized resins may be used for coating wires, making films, or, admixed with fillers, as floor coverings. Specification 414,336 is referred to.ALSO:Chlorinated rubber is plasticized by mixing it with at least one N,N-disubstituted amide of an unsaturated fatty acid having at least 12 carbon atoms per molecule. Specified amides are oleic acid diethylamide, oleic acid piperidide, oleic acid morpholide, sperm oil fatty acid N,N-diethylamide and oleic acid-N ethyl-N-cyclohexilamide. The plasticized chlorinated rubber may be used for coating wires, or admixed with fillers, as floor coverings. Specification 414,336 is referred to.
