Abstract

The invention comprises quaternary ammonium salts having trypanocidal properties and the formula <FORM:0729994/IV (b)/1> wherein X is an acid residue, e.g. a halogen atom. They are prepared by reacting 2,4-dichloro - 6 - amino - 1,3,5 - triazine with a quaternary salt of 2-methyl-4,6-diamino-quinoline, the quaternating acid being HX, preferably by heating under reflux in an organic solvent which may contain water. The anion may be replaced by known methods. The example describes the preparation of 2-amino-4,6 - di - (11 - methyl - 41 - amino - quinaldinium - 61) - amino - 1,3,5 - triazine dichloride and, by treatment of this compound with sodium iodide, the di-iodide.
