Abstract
729,836. Letter distribution systems; endless conveyers. MIX & GENEST AKT.-GES. Nov. 21, 1952 [Dec. 4, 1951], No. 29477/52. Class 78 (1). In a conveyer belt system in which flat objects, e.g. letters or postcards, are conveyed in upright position in a number of parallel channels above a conveyer belt, a number of superposed conveyer belts are arranged alternately to travel in opposite directions and means is provided for transferring the objects from a channel associated with one belt to a corresponding channel on the next lower belt, and for leading the objects from the channels into corresponding collecting boxes or shoots at suitable points. As shown, letters may pass round suitable guides from a channel F of the upper belt B1 to the corresponding channel of the lower belt B3 either with or without turning. In Fig. 5 the guiding is positive and without turning and is effected by a guided extension of belt B3 co-operating with a sloping end portion of belt B1. The extension of belt B3 may be replaced by a separate belt, Fig. 4 (not shown), whose upper part may be swung forwards for inspection purposes. The sloping part of belt B1 may be replaced by a separate belt B1a driven at higher speed than belt B1. In Fig. 6 the letters are turned by the combination of an endless band B2 and a stop K so that they fall on the belt B3 in upright position. Either the band B2 or the stop K may be used alone to provide the turning.
