Abstract

729,646. Vehicle movers. COZENS, F. G. Nov. 26, 1952 [Nov. 27, 1951], No. 27746/51. Classes 79(1) and 79(3). A motor driven truck comprises a chassis 10, a coupling member 14 positioned directly between fixed axle wheels 12 and vertically movable in a cylinder 13 by means of a jack on the truck, spring urged stabilizing castor wheels 34 mounted at each side, and a main wheel 26 swivelling on a vertical axis. The coupling member 14 may be raised or lowered either by a hydraulic pump 39 operated manually by a handle 21 and supplying pressure fluid to the cylinder 13, or by hand wheels 23 rotating a shaft 24 and a worm and wheel, the wheel being internally screw threaded and engaging a screw threaded stem of the coupling member. The wheel 26 may be driven by an electric motor within a casing 28, Fig. 1, through a gearbox 29 and a chain drive 30, with batteries 33 and controls 32, or the motor &c., may be mounted within a housing 38, Fig. 5. The wheel 26 may be connected directly to a steering handle 31 or may be carried in a vertically pivotable housing 37 connected to a handle. In a modification, the wheels 12 may be driven through differential gears and chain transmission. In all embodiments a clutch may be provided, and a petrol engine may replace the electric motor.
