Abstract

729,566. Body harness. BOTHAM, V. C. June 4, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 14104/52. Class 141. Body harness comprises a body strap for affording support in the region of the base of the spine and provided with means, independent of the means for fastening it, for the detachable connection of the ends of a strap for engaging a pole or overhead supporting member, and a waistengaging strap which is provided with means for effecting detachable connection between the waist-engaging strap and the pole strap or the body strap. As shown in Fig. 1, the body strap 10 comprises an elliptical central portion 11 and strap portions 12 fastened by a buckle 13 engaging holes 14. Metal rings 15 are provided at the ends of the portion 11 to which hooks 24, Fig. 9, on the pole straps 21 are fastened. The pole strap comprises a main portion having holes for engagement with a buckle 27 carried by strap 28 and a stop pin at the end to allow adjustment without danger' of its becoming completely unfastened. The waist engaging strap 29, fastened at the back by means of a buckle, has a buckle 34 at each side carrying rings 33 on which are mounted spring hooks 32 which may engage the rings 15 in the position shown on a hook 24 when the linesman assumes a sitting position using the pole strap as an overhead sling. A pouch 18 for pliers &c. may be provided.
