A pair of scissors comprises two pivoted blades each of which has a smooth continuous inner surface extending from the tip to the junction of the blade with the finger bow, the surface being machine ground, glazed or polished in a single operation, and an artificial half moon connected to the inner surface of one blade between the pivot and the finger bow. As shown, the inner surface 1 of each blade is ground concave, smooth and continuous from the point 2 to a position 5 near the finger bow 4, each blade having a rounded outer surface 7 faceted at 8. A depression 11 receives an end 10 of an artificial half moon 9 of sheet steel which is secured by the pivot screw 6. Several blades may be produced at one time by fixing them in a holder and moving the blades over a continuously moving grinding surface. In a modification, the pivot is located very close to the finger bows to increase the length of the cutting edges which are arcuate to render the angle between the cutting edges constant. In further modifications, the outer surface of the blade has two or three facets each of which can be ground, glazed or polished in a single operation and in one form having two facets, one facet is hollow ground and may be ground glazed or polished simultaneously with the inner surface by passing the blades between two shaped grinding wheels. The artificial half moon may comprise glass or ceramic members welded, soldered or glued in the blades which are of substantially constant transverse cross -sectionthroughout their length and may be hardened over their entire length, including the bows, in a single operation, without warping.
