Abstract
728,909. Machinery guards. INDUSTRIAL GUARDING EQUIPMENT, Ltd. June 8, 1953 [March 13, 1952], No. 6486/52. Class 80 (4). A guard 8 for a manually-operated press is pivotally carried by two pairs of parallel'links 13, 14 pivoted to the press frame and connected to the slide 6, so that the guard descends and ascends faster than the slide, by a rod 29 which also operates a trip mechanism to stop the slide's descent should the guard 8 meet an obstruction, such as an operator's hand. The rod 29 has a slotted connection with the links 13 and is normally held in a groove of a housing 17 on the slide 6 by an abutment on a spring- loaded bolt 22, Fig. 5, which is normally in a retracted position so that the rod 29 rises and falls with the slide. On obstruction of the guard's descent, however, the rod 29 is raised relatively to the housing into the position shown and the bolt 22 is shot into engagement with a fixed .rack 31, thereby stopping the slide. A resetting handle 24 passes through a slot in the housing which limits the bolt's movement.
