728,573. Semi-conductor devices. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 24, 1953 [Aug. 27, 1952], No. 23293/53. Class 37. A semi-conductor device comprises a semi-conductor body, generally of germanium or silicon, produced in egg-shaped form with the detrimental impurities concentrated in the narrow end, wherein the body is secured to a base electrode at its narrow end, to reduce the contact resistance, and is ground flat for engagement by one or more contacts at its broad end. In the described embodiment such a semiconductor body 3 is soldered to base 1, and a pointed electrode 8, bearing on the flattened end 7 of the body, is welded to a rod 10. The rods 1 and 10 are soldered into metal sleeves 14 of e.g. ferrochromium sealed into the ends of a glass tube 13,
