Abstract

728,115. Planing; shearing. SMITH & CO. (POSSIL), Ltd., H., and JEFFREY, D. C. Sept. 24, 1953, No. 26310/53. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). A plate-edge planing, plate-shearing or like machine comprises a table 1 and a vertically movable continuous beam 4 disposed longitudinally above the table, the beam being operatively connected at each end to two coaxial hydraulic rams. The beam 4 is lowered by directing fluid under pressure from a sump 8 to depress the rams 6. The beam then clamps a sheet of metal against friction strips 9 and a carriage 11 is traversed along the bed by a drum 12 and cable 13 to shear the edge off the sheet by rollers 10, 10A. The beam is raised at a fast rate by the rams 5.
