Abstract

728,016. Ventilating vehicles. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Feb. 23, 1953 [Feb. 23, 1952], No. 5074/53. Class 137. [Also in Group XIII] In a ventilating system for motor vehicles fresh air entering a funnel 13 located adjacent a radiator 12 passes along a pipe 14 and is divided along branch pipes 16, 17 according to the setting of a valve 20, the air then passing along a pipe 26 to a rotary slide valve 28 which can be adjusted to supply the appropriate amount of air to the interior of the vehicle for draught-free ventilation according to whether the vehicle is travelling at medium or maximum speed. Pipes 29, 30 and 29<SP>1</SP>, 30<SP>1</SP> provided with throttle valves 38, 38<SP>1</SP> lead respectively to the windscreen and side windows of the vehicle and pipes 34, 35 lead to the front and rear foot spaces. The air supply to the pipes 29, 30, 34 is controlled by an opening 37 in a rotary sleeve 27 inside the valve 28, a separate parallel opening being provided in the sleeve 27 to control the supply of air to the pipes 29<SP>1</SP>, 30<SP>1</SP>. The valve 28 has four positions, an off position when the air supply from the pipe 26 is completely cut off, two intermediate positions when either the air is supplied to the pipes 29, 30 and 29<SP>1</SP>, 301 only; or to these pipes together with pipes 34, 35 leading to the foot spaces of the vehicle, and a position when the air inlet to the valve 28 is partly closed. The valve 20 is operated by a push-pull member 21 having a contact 22 which closes a circuit 23 for an electric blower 24 situated in the pipe 14, the blower being switched on when the valve 20 is turned to deliver heated air from the pipe 17 which has housed therein a heat exchanger 18. The side windows 32 are provided with air-collecting vanes 33, and the front, or the front and rear, windows may have rockable window vanes with air scoop flaps. Separate ventilation units may be provided for the two sides of the vehicle, one, or both, units being furnished with heating means.
