727,725. Spring suspensions for cycles. WARREN, S. F. (Nebuloni, A.). April 9, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1952], No. 727/52. Class 136(3). In a motor or pedal cycle, one of the wheels is carried between subsidiary frames 10, 11, hingedly connected to the main frame of the machine by a bolt 21 and resiliently held against movement about this hinge by an elastic band or bands 25 passing round a member 16 of the main frame and round a pair of limbs 17 of the subsidiary frames, the distance between the limbs 17 being greater than the diameter of the member 16 so that the bands 25 assume a triangular loop shape, the apex angle of which decreases upon increasing the load applied to the cycle. To maintain lateral rigidity of the elastic suspension between the main frame and the sub-frames, each sub-frame 10, 11 is provided with a stud 30 which slides over a guide 29 on the main frame. A cross tube 31 is provided between the sub-frames 10, 11 to form a stop against which the seat tube 16 will impinge if the bands 25 break. The limbs 17 of the subframes are connected by a bridge piece 18 to which is fixed a plate 26. The rubber bands 25 are supported by this plate.
