726,609. Rolling batches of sugar into rope-like form. HANSELLA-WERK A. HENKEL AKT.- GES. May 18, 1953 [June 24, 1952], No. 13926/53. Class 87 (2) A machine for rolling a sugar batch comprising rotating, conical rollers adapted to receive the sugar batch is characterized by the feature that one end of each of the rollers is provided with a bearing and a pivot articulated to the latter, the other end being provided with a bush adapted to accommodate a spherical journal. The driven end of a roller 1 has a bush 3 with a slit 8, and the other end has a pin 13 in a bearing 12. At the end of each driving shaft 5 is a ball 4 over which the bush 3 may be slid, a pin 7 in the ball entering the slit 8 to transmit the rotational drive to the roller. The drive is from a shaft 11 which carries a gear wheel which drives inter-engaging gear wheels on the shafts 5. The bearing 12 is bolted to a pin 17 which enters a box 18; to remove a roller the pin is lifted out of the box and the other end of the roller is drawn off the ball-ended shaft. The boxes 18 of the two upper rollers may be swung about horizontal pivots 20, whereby the size of the outlet between the rollers may be adjusted, and this movement may be accompanied by handwheels 24, 25 which rotate a spindle 23 threaded through nuts 22 on the ends of levers 21. The outer ends of the pins 13 are enlarged and fluted at 15 to cause rotation of the rope of sugar as it leaves the machine. The sugar batch is fed in at the top of the housing 19.
