A spool for carrying convolutely wound flexible strip material comprises a hollow tubular core on each end of which is a lateral limiting plate an inwardly directed tubular projection such as a flange on which is secured to the internal surface of the core with an adhesive, the depth of the projection being less than half the width of the core. Materials of which the spool components may be composed include cardboard, wood, synthetic resin materials, and ductile or malleable metals such as aluminium or sheet iron.
