Abstract

The invention comprises complex chromium or cobalt compounds of the dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0726342/IV (c)/1> which contain one atom of chromium or cobalt in complex union with two molecules of the dyestuff and are made by treating the dyestuff with an agent yielding chromium or cobalt. The dyestuff itself is made by coupling diazotized 2 - aminophenol - 5 - sulphonic acid amide with b -naphthol. Metallizing agents specified are metal compounds of oxycarboxylic acids such as lactic, glycollic, citric, tartaric, and salicylic acid or its methyl substitution products, or divalent cobalt compounds such as cobalt sulphate, acetate, or hydroxide. The products dye or print wool, silk, leather, nylon or superpolyurethanes. In examples, the dyestuff of the above formula is metallized with cobalt sulphate or sodium/potassium chromosalicylate in alkaline solution. A dyeing example using wool is given.
