Abstract
The invention comprises 4-ethinyl-4-hydroxytetrahydro-thiapyran and a process for its preparation by reacting an alkali metal acetylide with tetrahydro-1-thiapyrone-4 and decomposing the alkali metal complex thus obtained. In an example, lithium metal in liquid ammonia is subjected to a stream of acetylene, and to the resultant lithium acetylide solution is added ethereal tetrahydro - 1 - thiapyrone - 4 with stirring. Decomposition of the complex with ice followed by distillation yields 4-ethinyl-4-hydroxy-tetrahydro-thiapyran.
