Abstract
726,070. Feeding webs; delivery apparatus. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO. Jan. 28, 1953 [July 9, 1952], No. 2485/53. Class 100 (1). An angle-bar arrangement comprises a plurality of flat carriages which are supported one above the other in a framework in such a manner as to be individually movable transversely with respect to the path of travel of the web into alignment with any section of the latter and an angle-bar associated with each carriage for turning the web section into a folder, the arrangement being such that each web section may be discharged from each carriage in a direction at right-angles to that of its entry with either face uppermost. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the angle-bar arrangement 20 includes frame members 24, 25 supporting a plurality of cross-members 31-36 arranged in horizontally-spaced pairs. Six webs may be fed to the cross-member, three from each side of the apparatus 20 (Fig. 3), the six webs after turning being discharged into a former folder 23 (Fig. 4). The cross-members carry carriages 61-66. The carriages are each constructed as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. Thus the carriage 61 includes a rectangular frame 70 having webreceiving sides 71, 72 and web discharge sides 73, 74. As shown, the web is split into three sections, two of which are of two-pages width and the third of one page width. A two-page width section 41 after being guided over rollers 85 at the side 71 is turned by the angle-bar 75 and is discharged over rollers 92 at the side 73. For discharging the web with the same side up as when it enters the apparatus the angle-bar may be mounted across the other diagonal of the frame as shown in respect of the carriage 62 so that the web section 42 after being turned towards the side 74a is passed round a roller 91a and emerges on the side 73a over the roller 92a. The angle-bars 75, 75a are mounted on pads 81, 82, or 83, 84, and pads 81a, 82a or 83a, 84a respectively. Rollers are mounted on all sides of each of the carriages so that webs may be received from the left or right and discharged to either side of the apparatus. The carriages 61, 62 are both supported from the cross-members 31, 32 which are provided with upper guide surfaces 95, 97 and lower guide surfaces 96, 98. The carriage 61 is supported on the upper surfaces 95, 97 and secured by brackets 100, 100<SP>1</SP>, the carriage 62 being supported on the lower surfaces 96, 98 and secured by brackets 100a, 100<SP>1</SP>a. Alignment of the carriages to the required position is effected by an adjusting-rod 102a, in the case of the carriage 62, so that the carriage may be moved manually along the rod, when a clamp 103a is loosened. More accurate adjustment is effected by rotation of a shaft 107a, the shaft 106a being coupled to the shaft 102a at its end 105a which is slidable in bushings 104a. For the purpose of dealing with web sections of only one page in width and discharging them into either side of the folder an extension 110 is provided (Fig. 4) along which the carriages may be slid. Alternatively a bent angle-bar 115 (Fig. 9) may be used capable of being supported in different positions.
