Abstract
725,657. Door holders. HOLBECHE, H. April 2, 1953 [Jan. 15, 1953], No. 1185/53. Class 65(1). A catch for engaging the underside of a gate or door comprises a tube 1 adapted to be embedded in the ground, a catch arm 2 pivotally mounted intermediate its ends on the upper end of the tube with the tail of the catch arm located in the tube and the outer end portion of the catch arm lying at a height above the level of the top of the tube and being shaped to catch-engage the bottom of the door, a helical tension spring 6 located in the tube with one end anchored to the tail of the catch arm and the other end anchored in relation to the tube to thereby pull the tail downwardly and raise the outer end of the arm into position for engagement by the door. As shown, the outer end of the arm 2 includes a U-shaped portion 8 for holding the door in open position and an extension 9 forming a stop. The lower end of the tube 1 is grooved to facilitate driving into the ground.
