725,497. Casting-machines. ARNOLD, J. C. (Lester Engineering Co.). July 16, 1953, No. 19803/53. Class 83 (1). A gooseneck assembly for a die-casting machine comprises a yoke 8 with downwardly extending legs 9 for mounting above a melting-pot 3, a gooseneck 15 depending from the yoke for immersion in molten metal in the pot and having a transversely slidable connection with said legs, a plunger 37 vertically reciprocable in the upwardly opening bore 17 of the gooseneck and extending upwardly between said legs, and a split plungerguide 36 mounted on the gooseneck to embrace a portion of the plunger, said guide being openable to permit transverse withdrawal of the plunger. The gooseneck is slidably mounted in guideways 10 of the yoke 8 and is clamped into engagement with an electrically heated discharge nozzle 21 by means of screws 30 which are carried in a bracket 31 connected at its ends to ears 35 on the machine frame 1 by pins 34, so that the bracket may be swung about one end by removal of the pin 34 from the other end, to allow the gooseneck to be retracted from the discharge nozzle. The upper end of the plunger 37 is formed with a collar 47 which engages in a transverse slot 48 in a split coupling 49 connected to the lower end of the piston-rod 50 of a hydraulic actuating cylinder 51. The split coupling 49 may be opened by loosening a nut 58 to disengage it from the head 52 of the piston-rod 50. The connection of the collar 47 with the slot 48 allows of misalignment of the plunger 37 and piston-rod 50 without harmful effects.
