Abstract

725,415. Closing heat sealable packets. RANCHO GRANADA CO. Jan. 12, 1953, No. 879/53. Class 94 (1). A machine for closing heat sealable packets under vacuum conditions comprises a series of housings on a rotatable table, each housing being tilted to receive a filled packet, closed onto the turntable and exhausted, and after sealing of the packet by a heater in the housing, tilted to open position for removal of the packet. Each housing 23 is pivoted to the table 7 at 62 and is tiltable by a roller 64 contacting-a fixed cam 63. The heater 41 is caused to seal the packet mouth against an anvil 54 by admitting atmospheric pressure above a piston 36 when the housing is exhausted. Suction is applied to the housings through pipes 93 connected to the table centre shaft 6, vent valves (not shown) and valves 89 being operated by fixed cams to connect the housings to atmosphere or suction as required. To save power, oppositely situated housings are connected by air conduits so that a housing about to be connected to atmosphere can partially exhaust the one opposite about to be connected to vacuum.
