725,306. Clearing yarns. REINERS, W. Feb. 9, 1953 [Feb. 7, 1952], No. 3640/53. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). A thread clearing device for textile winding machines, &c., is provided with a clearing aperture 8 through which the thread 3 is arranged to pass, the slit being formed between parts arranged to move automatically to reduce the width of the slit 8 when a thick part 4 of the thread attempts to pass through, means being provided for adjusting the normal width of the aperture 8 and for simultaneously adjusting the force which is required to cause the movement which reduces the width of the aperture. A knob 15, provided with a scale, rotates a cam 13 to alter the position of a stop 11 on an arm pivoted in a bolt 6, so to vary the maximum aperture 8. At the same time, the pinion 16 moves a segment 17 to adjust the spring-force 9 which always acts to urge the clearer plate 7 in an anti-clockwise sense, (Fig. 1) away from the fixed member 1, 2.
