724,946. Sealing gaskets. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 24, 1953 [Feb. 26, 1952], No. 5155/53. Class 20 (3). [Also in Group XIII] A magnetic gasket for the closure member of a cabinet, e.g. a refrigerator, comprises a base portion 12 having a fastening rib 13 and a toe portion 16, and a tubular section 18 hinged at 17 to the base portion, a number of magnets 20 being assembled within the section 18 so that as the door is closed the section 18 is attracted toward a face portion 4 framing the opening in the refrigerator to effect a seal and as the door is opened' the section 18 is attracted toward a face 9 on the door. The section 18 is provided with a bead portion 21 and a sealing rib 19, the bed 21 first making contact with the face 4 as the door is closed, thereafter the section 18 rotates about the point engaged by the bead 21 until the rib 19 is brought into sealing engagement with the face portion 4. The tendency for the section 18 to rotate outwardly also urges the toe portion 16 into engagement with the door. The gasket is fastened to the door by means of the rib 13 which is engaged by a retainer 14 screwed to the door frame. Specification 686,047 is referred to.
