[Also . in Group XXII] A precombustion chamber insert comprises an upper part 14 of low-grade ferrous material such as ordinary steel enclosing a combustion space 16 adjacent the fuel injection nozzle 12 welded to a lower part 15 of high-grade ferrous material, such as a highly alloyed steel, enclosing the lower part of the passage 17 communicating through holes 19 with the main combustion space. The insert may be formed from two blanks 14<SP>1</SP>, 151, Fig. 2, which are butt-welded together at 201 and then machined to the desired shape.
