Abstract

Detergent compositions comprise (1) a water-soluble salt of a sulphated condensation product of ethylene oxide with a fatty alcohol, a fatty acid, a fatty amide, a fatty alkylolamide, an alkylphenol, an alkylnaphthol or an alkylphenyl ethyl alcohol, and (2) a reaction product of an alkylolamine with a fatty acid. Typical sulphated products are obtainable from lauryl alcohol, myristic acid, palmitic acid amide, laurylphenol, octylnaphthol and octylphenol ethyl alcohol by reaction with 1-5 mols. of ethylene oxide followed by sulphation and neutralization of the product with an alkali or alkaline-earth metal, ammonia or an organic base such as an ethanolamine or isopropanolamine. The reaction product of an alkylolamine with a fatty acid may be an alkylolamide and (or) a product of the kind sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Ninol" made by heating 1 mol. of a fatty acid with 2 mols. of an alkylolamine. Suitable products are obtainable from mono- or di-ethanolamine or monoisopropanolamine and lauric acid or palm-kernel or coconut fatty acids. The compositions may be produced in liquid form, if desired with the aid of water and (or) a lower alcohol, e.g. methyl, ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. Examples are given. U.S.A.
