Abstract
723,883. Turbine rotors. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 9, 1952 [Sept. 10, 1951], No. 21298/51. Class 110 (3). In a built-up steam or gas turbine rotor comprising two or more bladecarrying sections 1, 2, 3 arranged for passage of fluid in series therethrough and held in axial compression by a coaxial bolt 8, the said bolt passes through the lower temperature section or sections and is screwed into the high temperature section 1 at a location where the temperature of the bolt can be held relatively low, whereby to minimize creep thereof. As shown, the sections 1, 2 are formed with extensions 4, 6 which are pressed or shrunk into corresponding bores formed in the sections 2, 3 respectively. The section 1 is also provided with extensions 5 which pass with clearance through the sections 2 and are internally screwthreaded to receive the bolts 8; the heads of the bolts being located in recesses in the sections 3. The bolts are secured by locking-plates 10 and are hollow to permit a flow of cooling medium therethrough. Specification 723,882 is referred to.
