Abstract
723,816. Splitting-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., SMART, W. A., and SMITH, F. R. June 29, 1953 [June 28, 1952], No. 16332/52. Class 31 (1). A machine for cutting a sheet 12 of fibre board into bevelled strips to be used for making shoe parts, e.g. counters, comprises a series of spaced guides A to G, Fig. 1, each comprising vertically-spaced blocks 52, 54, Fig. 3, provided respectively with flanges 100, 102 between which the sheet is passed so that it is presented in an undulatory form to a band knife 28. The blocks 52, 54 are mounted on horizontal beams 42, 44 so as to be adjustable horizontally, vertically, and, if desired, angularly thereof, downward displacement of the block 54 being resisted by springs 88. The beam 42 is adjustable vertically with respect to the beam 44. shoe part blanks are cut from the bevelled strips by means of a cutting-out press and each blank is then skived, to provide a bevelled margin throughout, by means of a die roll having a cavity co-operating with a fixed knife as described in Specification 14725/02, [Class 31], which is referred to. A modified form of guide is described.
