[Also in Group VIII] A press knife comprising a lower metal portion 2 eventually providing a sharpened cutting- edge, an upper metal portion 6 adapted to receive a blow from a pressure-applying member of a press, and an intermediate portion 4 of thinner metal than the portions 2, 6 and either corrugated, as shown, or formed of a number of metallic rods is made by forming each of the portions 2, 4 (when corrugated), 6 by bending a metal strip to the desired shape and welding together the abutting edges of each portion, and thereafter welding the upper and lower edges of the portion 4 to the portions 2, 6.
