Abstract
Therapeutical agents are produced by making a wound in a preferably young and sexually immature animal, and after healing has set in, say in 7-15 days, removing the granulation tissue, extracting with acetone-ether to remove lipoids and produce a dry powder from which an aqueous isotonic extract is produced at 1-2 DEG C., the structural albumen being removed if desired by precipitation with acetone, ether alcohols, acids, or by fermentation, at pH 5.2-8.1 and dialysis filtration. The acetone-ether may be concentrated in vacuos to a pasty consistency, taken up in alcohol under reduced pressure, and formed into an aqueous solution in a current of steam. The two products may be used separately or in combination, either directly, or injected into an animal for the production of a serum, the blood being kept in a refrigerator until the serum has separated from the solid constituents of the blood. Instead of extracting the wound granulation tissue, it may be first incubated in vitro, by implantation on a nutrient plasma prepared from the blood of mammals or domestic fowls, by adding anticoagulating agents, e.g. heparin, citric acid, and centrifuging. During incubation, at 34-37 DEG C, the growing culture is sprayed with a nutrient solution. After 2-5 days, the culture is isolated from the nutrient medium, and thereafter subjected to the acetone-ether extraction.
