Abstract

723,274. Pistons. ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 12, 1952 [Dec. 27, 1951], No. 22922/52. Class 122 (1). A diaphragm piston comprises a moulded diaphragm 36 having a relatively thick flat central-portion 69, a relatively thick flat rim portion 64 and a thinner preformed generally semi-toroidal intermediate trough portion 68, at which it is subject to flexure, that is internally reinforced by a sheet of rip-resistant fabric anchored in the central portion 69 and rim portion 64. The moulding is of flexible synthetic rubber and the fabric of rip-resistant nylon fabric coated with adhesive to improve the bond with the rubber. Specification 595,032 is referred to.
